The Pedralbes festival changes management and passes to Clipper's Live

Today it has finally been revealed who will organize the music festival in the gardens of the Pedralbes palace for the next three years. She will be the promoter of Clipper's Live concerts after winning the public contest called by the Generalitat, and who will ensure that everything is ready between June 19 and August 2 of the next three editions.

The aforementioned Barcelona company has thus imposed itself on the three applicants who also aspired to its organization: the promoter Doctor Music, the company Proactiv and the also promoter and manager of the Jardins Pedralbes Festival since its creation ten years ago, Concert Studio. Clipper's Live has obtained 31.76 points in the technical offer and the maximum score (50 points) in the economic offer, since the offer amounted to 1 million euros. Therefore, in total, the promoter has added 81.76 points.

In second place was Big Tourism -known by its trademark, Doctor Music-, which has obtained a score of 30.56 points in the technical offer and the maximum score (50 points) in the economic one, also offering 1 million euros , and getting 80.56 points. Third place has been for Proactiv, which has added 30.09 in the technical offer and 40 points in the economic offer, by putting 800,000 euros on the table, which led it to reach 70.09 points. The current winner, Concert Studio, has obtained the lowest score, with a total of 40.61 points in the technical offer and 27.75 points in the economic one. He has offered 555,000 euros and, therefore, has achieved 68.36 points.

The victory of Clipper's Live –also responsible for the Cap Roig, Summerfest Cerdanya, Cambrils or Suite festivals– is therefore based on a proposal whose half lies in the economic contribution, while the artistic/programmatic aspect is substantially lower.

Paradoxically, it has been Concert Studio that has presented its most valued artistic project by far. As reported at the opening of the bankruptcy envelopes, the aforementioned promoter had been first in artistic sections submitted for evaluation, such as the presence of Catalan artists, female representation and variety, while Clippers would have won, among other aspects, in the chapter of established artists.

All of this has not prevented it from being in last place in the final calculation for having offered a very low economic amount compared to those of its competitors. It should be remembered that the criteria for this competition were agreed between the Departments of Economy, Culture and the Presidency.

At the moment, and as Economia recalled a few hours ago, these results are provisional and have to be finalized in the coming days, which will be when the contract can be formally awarded. In this sense, Clipper's Live did not plan to make any kind of official statement yesterday until the decision was made official.

The expectation right now lies in knowing what are the programmatic and general criteria of the promoter directed by Juli Guiu, and the special poster of this first edition that is practically just around the corner.

The presence of Clipper's Live at the helm of this festival inevitably recalls that 2012 when this same promoter chaired by the also high-ranking Blaugrana leader also took over from Concert Studio at the head of the Cap Roig festival...

In any case, the festival model that Concert Studio had created and maintained during this decade had undoubtedly taken root in Barcelona. With success, brilliance and prestige. A model on which an immense question mark is now being opened.

A few hours after the result was known, Concert Studio issued a statement saying goodbye as the organizer of that reference festival, referring to an "unfair bidding" because "how could they be bidding for something that we have created?"

In the same communiqué, it is grateful for "the respect, appreciation and admiration of 100,000 people who attended every summer", and it is recalled that the initiative to call a contest was skipped "an official commitment, signed and written by the Department of the Presidency of the Generalitat of Catalonia in which they undertook to renew the festival agreement for a minimum of 5 years".

In conversation with this newspaper, Martín Pérez, its director and soul, acknowledged yesterday, sensitively affected, that “all this causes me enormous sadness. We had created a wonderful thing and now it has been taken away from us.”
