The part that each of us plays in sustainable development

Concentrating a commitment of almost 90 years in a few words was not an easy task, but it was essential. For three years, MAPFRE has had a motto to make clear that sustainability is a reality in which the company has believed and acted for a long time with the aim of building a better present and future, always based on collective commitment.

Those thousands of gestures, simple but important, that add up to the common goal of building a more sustainable world, that is, fairer, more prosperous, more ethical, more equal, more diverse, more collaborative and more ecological. With this motto, the insurer encourages all citizens to reflect and take action, that is, to fight climate change, combat inequality and build a more inclusive and diverse world. It also conveys the idea that we cannot be indifferent and avoid problems, and that we have to take sides, with actions and commitments.

MAPFRE has a 2022-2024 Sustainability Plan, a strategy completely integrated into the business and the decision-making of all areas of the company, which puts people at the center of everything, which establishes indicators that show where they are. and where they want to go and that responds to the needs of all their interest groups. This is a tremendously ambitious plan, with more than 20 objectives, measurable, achievable and realistic, with specific deadlines, to, among other challenges, achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, reinforce our transparency, and increase our compliance with the 2030 Agenda. .

All dimensions are relevant, but for MAPFRE, which defines itself as a company that takes care of people, the S in Social is the one that concentrates the greatest weight, with programs to improve social inclusion, fair employment, financial knowledge and, thereby, better access to insurance protection. The company, with a presence in more than 30 countries, recognizes that, although we have taken great steps to move towards a diverse and inclusive society, there are still important inequality gaps that directly impact people's well-being, and with this vision, they work to continue advancing towards a better model of society that guarantees equal opportunities to all, without exclusion.

“We aspire to incorporate sustainability and social return in everything we do, for the benefit of our clients, employees and society in general. It is a challenge that without the help of our allies would not be possible to achieve.” This is what Mónica Zuleta, corporate director of Sustainability at MAPFRE, believes, recognizing that “alliances allow us to collaborate with those with whom we share our vision and ambition to move towards a more just and equitable world and multiply our impact.” The company believes that collaboration is key to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. “We must all work together for the world we want and only if we seek joint solutions, will we be able to reach a sustainable horizon,” she emphasizes.
