The old colony where the Llobregat roars

I captured these images for The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia in L'Ametlla de Merola, the former colony of Berguedà, the southernmost one next to Bages, where we can find this spectacular Salt del Llobregat.

We are located in the municipality of Puig-reig in a nucleus of less than 200 inhabitants that originated as a textile industrial colony in the last third of the 19th century.

Its architectural complex is unique, because the urban typology of L'Ametlla is different from that of the other colonies in Alt Llobregat.

In this sense, the houses are single-family, two stories high, oriented on streets and forming small squares, all on one side of the factory.

It was a very complete colony that had a pharmacy, cinema, theater, cafe, shops, savings bank... in addition to this important waterfall on the Llobregat River.
