The 'New York Times' chooses Valencia as one of the best destinations to travel in 2024

The only thing missing was for Valencia, in the midst of a tourist boom, to appear in the ranking of the 52 best destinations to travel to in 2024 published by The New York Times to capture international interest. The newspaper places the Valencian capital in 20th place on a list led by the North American territories and which includes European destinations such as Paris, Normandy, Geneva, Manchester, Vienna, Massa-Carrara and Dresden.

In the text dedicated to the Valencian city, The New York Times points out that the city "has been overshadowed by Barcelona for a long time, despite sharing similar characteristics" and praises its "velvet sand" beaches or its delicious paella, as it couldn't be less.

The text also explains that the city holds the European green capital status this year - a celebration that begins tomorrow in a ceremony that will be hosted by the Palau de la Música - and this distinction highlights that it "recognizes cities for their environmental efforts" and the sets an example for travelers who "look for less crowded destinations with a more sustainable mentality."

Of its environmental commitment, the newspaper highlights the process of pedestrianization that the city has experienced, with examples such as the Plaza de la Reina, as well as its cultural offer, as it mentions the recently inaugurated Hortensia Herrero Art Center. Of this, the journalist who signs the text highlights that it houses the private collection of contemporary art "of the Spanish billionaire Hortensia Herrero" and that it includes more than 100 works by artists such as Anish Kapoor, Andreas Gursky and Mat Collishaw.
