The new rates for Barcelona's metropolitan public transport will come into force on January 15

With the start of the new year, it is customary that the new fares for Barcelona's metropolitan public transport come into effect every January 1. But this time the measure will be delayed by two weeks. This was decided this Friday after a meeting of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), a consortium in which the Generalitat de Catalunya (51%) and the local administrations (49%), which are Barcelona City Council, the Area Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) and the Association of Municipalities for Mobility and Urban Transport (AMTU). So, the new prices will be effective from next January 15.

As reported by the ATM in a statement, this means "extending the expiration of titles purchased before January 14 until April 30 to guarantee full use by users."

Although there is a surprise in the timing of its application, the prices are as expected. The ATM agreed to renew its 20% bonus on the prices of the T-usual and the T-jove, the titles that they consider encourage the recurring use of public transport. Together with the 30% reduction also renewed for one year by the Government announced in the last Council of Ministers, these two subscriptions will continue during 2024 with a 50% price reduction. It is the same situation they had until now.

All in all, a T-usual from a zone will be worth 21.35 euros next year and the T-jove 42.70. Like the rest of the ATM titles, they will be somewhat more expensive than this year. And it is that a general price increase of 6.75% is applied after three years of freezing rates to "compensate for the general increase in prices in recent years or the strong financial decompensation of operators due to the effect of the covid”, argued the ATM.
