The nectar of spring in Cardona

Spring in Cardona, in the Bages region, is synonymous with flowers and butterflies, as can be seen in these photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La vanguardia.

Butterflies have two pairs of membranous wings covered with colored scales, which they use for thermoregulation, courtship, and signaling. We can see it in detail in the snapshots.

Its oral apparatus is of the proboscis type. It is provided with a long trunk that is coiled in a spiral (spiritrompa) and which remains coiled at rest. It serves them to drink the nectar of the flowers that they pollinate, a scene that the images capture.

The best-known butterflies are diurnal, but in reality most of the species are nocturnal (moths, sphinxes, peacocks, etc.) and go largely unnoticed.

The most colorful diurnal butterflies can be seen especially between the months of March and the end of summer, so April is an ideal month to photograph them.
