The Museu de la Música de Barcelona wants to be a CCCB of sound art

The new director of the Museu de la Música de Barcelona, Jordi Alomar, has set course for his goal: to turn the L'Auditori facility into a center for thought and dissemination of sound art. He wants the museum to be referential in that sense, erecting it into "a generating pole of symbolic value of L' Auditori".

Alomar presented his artistic project yesterday accompanied by the director of the room, Robert Brufau, who, enthusiastic about the approach, defined it as a CCCB of music, that is, a center of contemporary culture like the one in Barcelona.

The person in charge of the museum and the Center Robert Gerhard assures that he will apply a new reading of heritage and will prioritize another museographic perspective, one that rethinks the hegemonic discourse of history –postcolonial, class, gender...– and that promotes thought critic in the contemporary practices of sound creation.

Speaking of a 21st century museography, he pointed out that the permanent exhibition will take advantage of interactive technology with seven projects (which are financed with Po-Feder funds): the audio guide will be portable audiovisual and interactive devices to broaden the visitor's experience; Through sampling, it will be possible to manipulate ten instruments from the collection that are out of use for conservation reasons, or there will be 3D reproductions of instruments. In addition, two temporary exhibition spaces will be adapted with a system that allows the space to be reconfigured up to a dozen times.

Being an integral part of L'Auditori, the Museum has aligned itself with its artistic story and assumes the motto of the season Death or return. Thus, among the six exhibitions next year, the one on the centenary of Felip Pedrell's death stands out, reflecting the complexity of the composer from Tortosa and the mark he has left.

"He is an influential figure who can have many readings -says Marc Heilbron, one of the coordinators together with Cristina Álvarez Losada and Ilaria Sartori- but we will highlight the hybridizations, the way in which his thought interacts with many elements of the culture of his epoch".

"Everyone knows that he was the teacher of Albéniz, Granados, Gerhard or Falla, but we will look at how these other composers were in contact with other sound worlds and musical currents. In such a way that he was present in many musical relationships of the time. And the interesting thing is that despite a hundred years having passed, that footprint is still present. Pedrell has been fundamental to our culture", added the coordinator of the exhibition.

Other samples will be dedicated to Sofia Gubaidulina or to pioneers of electronic music, or will reflect on the record as a musical medium. In addition, two cycles are born, the already presented Trànsits , on the diversity of cultural practices in Barcelona, and Guitarres , to spread the museum's magnificent collection.
