One of the most anticipated days of the year has finally arrived: the official start of the Extraordinary Christmas Lottery Draw 2023. A tradition that has become an essential part of Christmas celebrations in Spain, so much so that the most loyal followers of the draw they begin to queue up to a day before to secure a ticket in the stalls of the Teatro Real in Madrid.

But not only that, with the desire to call for luck and good fortune, some of those attending the raffle appear dressed every year in the most varied and peculiar ways: from a Christmas basket to priests.

A tradition that has already established itself among the most superstitious of the Royal Theater and that surprises us every year with all kinds of different outfits. Below are some of this year's most original costumes.

Bishops, priests, monks or all types of costumes of people related to the church or other religions are a classic that appear on every occasion. On this occasion we have seen a bishop and a pope.

Those who follow the Extraordinary Christmas Lottery Draw each year have surely seen Manoli, an 86-year-old woman who has been attending the stalls in all kinds of costumes for more than a decade. This edition has surprised us all by dressing up as a Christmas basket.

There has also been no shortage of costumes with a special reference to the Extraordinary Draw of the Christmas Lottery, as has been the case of a man dressed in a suit lined with tenths.

Couple costumes are also common among audience members in the stalls. This year we have seen everything from Christmas elf hats to hippie costumes.

Don Quixote and Sancho Panza already surprised us last year, becoming one of the most original costumes in the draw. This year, Don Quixote, the iconic character of Spanish literary tradition, has once again appeared among the public.

But not only that, last night, while some of the attendees were queuing to secure their seats in the stalls, they were encouraged to do a dance to the song Slomo, all with some nod to the tradition of costumes wearing hats mainly from Santa Claus.
