The most anticipated video games of 2024

It is said that 2024 will not be as powerful a year in terms of video game releases as 2023 has been, however, this is still a preconceived idea. With a more or less focused first half of the year, and in which the great Japanese blockbusters such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth stand out, things are beginning to take shape. The list of games whose release is already confirmed suggests a very interesting 2024 – and there are still many unknowns with what may arrive from the summer onwards.

From among the hundreds of titles that will go on sale in 2024, we select some of the most anticipated. The following list includes games for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.

Plataformas: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series y Nintendo Switch

Prince of Persia is back. The new installment of the iconic game created by Jordan Mechner will arrive in a few days and will recover the action and 2D platforms of the original titles. In addition to a change of look for the prince, the game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier will have gameplay more focused on action and combat.

Ichiban Kasuga, the charismatic protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, will also return in 2024 with a new installment of this game series that is increasingly popular in the West. Good old Ichiban will not be alone, since he will be accompanied by Kazuma Kiryu, the classic protagonist of the franchise. Both will star in a crazy adventure that will once again be set in the streets of Yokohama, but above all will stand out for its new setting in the city of Honolulu in Hawaii.

If 2023 was a great year for fighting games thanks to the launch of titles like Street Fighter 6 or Mortal Kombat 1, this year also points out ways for fans of this genre. At the end of January, Tekken 8 will arrive, the new installment of this veteran franchise, which will add new mechanics, characters and continue the dramatic melodrama that has pitted Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama for decades. Without a doubt, the most complicated relationship between father and son in the world of video games.

After the spectacular Final Fantasy VII Remake, this 2024 we will once again accompany Cloud, Tifa, Barret and company in the continuation of their epic adventure. If the previous game was set in the fictional city of Midgar, this sequel will open up to the rest of the continent and offer a game with a much more open development. For the first time it will be possible to control characters that had not been playable in the previous installment, such as the feline Red XIII. It has all the potential to become one of the most notable titles of the year.

Alone in the Dark, the horror game series that served as inspiration for Resident Evil, will return thirty years after the publication of the first installment and seven after Alone in the Dark: Illumination, its ill-fated last iteration. This reimagining of the original trilogy will be set in the Southern Gothic of the 1920s. Once again, the player must step into the shoes of Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby as they explore the mysterious Derceto mansion. The development of the game is carried out by the Swedish studio Pieces Interactive, and its script is handled by Mikael Hedberg, who did the same in the acclaimed horror titles SOMA and Amnesia.

More than a decade after the first Dragon's Dogma, this 2024 we will have the opportunity to return to Capcom's high fantasy world. Its creators, led by veteran Hideaki Itsuno, promise an explorable setting four times larger than that of the original title. In addition, this sequel will run on the RE Engine graphics engine capable of technical wonders like Resident Evil 4 Remake. It is one of the most anticipated returns of the year.

This adventure starring the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom was one of the big surprises of the last Nintendo Direct and is set to be one of the last notable Nintendo Switch exclusives. The protagonist will have a wide variety of new transformations, from swordswoman and kung-fu master to baker and detective. It had been many years since Princess Peach's last solo adventure, so it was time to have her again as the main star of a game.

When it was announced in 2020 with a video demonstration that showed a specular technical finish, many doubted the veracity of those images. A few years later, the time is approaching when we will be able to see it for ourselves with the launch of this adventure based on the classic 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West. This is the debut of the Chinese studio Game Science and it seems that it will delight fans of action games with large and monstrous rivals.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was announced in the now distant 2019 and since then it has only been shown in different trailers, each one more spectacular. We saw the last of them at the end of 2023 on the occasion of The Game Awards gala, where the title developed by the British studio Ninja Theory was the most notable titles. The first part, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, was published in 2017 and surprised with its premise, the story of a young Celtic woman who suffers from schizophrenia at a time when there was great ignorance about this mental illness.
