The monks of the Valley of the Fallen offer a new mass in memory of the Francoist coup

The monks of the Abbey of the Valley of the Fallen who declared themselves "dismayed" at the "profanation" that they denounced for the exhumation of the remains of the dictator Francisco Franco have made a new show of exaltation of Francoism this Monday by celebrating a remembrance mass of the 1936 uprising.

It has been Eldiario.es who has advanced the celebration of the aforementioned religious service in which, unlike on other occasions, "coats of arms or flowers" have not been displayed, although "the memory of what happened 86 years ago now" has prevailed.

All this just one week after the approval of the Democratic Memory Law in Congress which, among others, seeks recognition of the memory of the victims of the coup d'état, the War in Spain and the Franco dictatorship. And with the countdown underway both for the change of name -for Cuelgamuros- and for the departure of the Benedictine monks.

The Foundation of the Holy Cross of the Valley of the Fallen, whose management is the responsibility of the Benedictines, is doomed to leave the Valley of the Fallen because "its purposes are incompatible with constitutional principles and values."

There is no exact date for it, and there are initiatives on social networks to stop the future eviction, but what has already been executed is the stoppage of the income of 340,000 euros that, from Patrimony, was paid annually to the congregation.
