The mirror tuba of the cloister of the Piarists

In this photograph in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we see how the tuba acts as a parabolic mirror of the cloister of the Piarists of Igualada, in Anoia.

The cloister was built from 1495 on top of a previous one that was damaged. In 1506, the reconstruction of this space, which is one of the great heritage elements of the city, was completed.

Jeroni Cornet, from Igualado, left a legacy to the Augustinians to found a classroom to read and teach theology and philosophy, and to build part of the cloister, provided he carved his coat of arms in both places.

The Convent of Sant Agustí was founded in Igualada in 1393, by Augustinian friars from Barcelona. It was located outside the walls in the west of the city, in the current Plaza Castells, where the previous chapel of Santa María Egipcíaca, built around 1336, was located.

The convent was occupied by the Augustinians until 1835. In 1858 it passed into the hands of the Piarists, who still have the current Pious School of Igualada.

The adjacent church, with the title of sanctuary since 1941, is dedicated to the Virgen de la Piedad, co-patron saint of the city. It is a building protected as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.
