The history in color of Tàrrega

I walked through Tàrrega, the capital of the Urgell region, where I made this photographic report for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

This town has modernist houses, the old Jewish quarter, a palace, the FiraTàrrega, among other attractions. Although without a doubt, one of the things that caught my attention the most were some of its houses, very colorful and well-kept.

I also liked seeing murals painted on the walls, especially in the center of the town, which give it color and a certain joy. We can see them, for example, in places where there were old shops and they are works that allude, therefore, to shops.

It should be taken into account that about five years ago this area, Urgell Street was more of a gray color due to the houses boarded up with cement. But, today and thanks to a reform promoted by the council, we can find these murals in some businesses that make us forget that other sad image.

Continuing the tour of this place, we arrive at the Plaça Major. A square presided over by the terminus cross, the church, the Tàrrega chamber of commerce or the Town Hall headquarters. Precisely, it was the town hall building, built of stone, and some shops in this square that caught my attention the most.

Already finishing the day in Tàrrega, other things that I liked the most were its big heads, the adoberia and some specific streets. Starting with the big heads, we know that the first ones date back to 1997. In total, today there are eight.

The history of Tàrrega also goes through its adobery, discovered in an excavation. There are structures related to the conduction of water and some pikes. These structures intervened in the process of marinating and transforming the skin. An adobery that suffered a flood many years ago although it is now part of the Xarxes d’Adoberies Històriques de Catalunya.

Without a doubt, a Tàrrega with color, history and that seeks to survive in the middle of a territory not suitable for anyone. Some agricultural areas surrounded by fields and small towns where you can see that lately they are doing everything possible to attract the attention of tourists, improve the lives of citizens, improve the way of explaining their history and also improve or take better care of their houses, which, Sometimes they end up abandoned, in ruins, making nests for pigeons. Despite everything that is being done, there is still a way to go.
