The Medes Islands are an emblematic archipelago in the Mediterranean, on the Costa Brava, made up of seven small islands and some islets.

In La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we can see in this series of photographs and videos the paradisiacal and idyllic sunrise in Gola del Ter, with this peculiar formation of small islands as a backdrop.

The Medes Islands are declared a Specially Protected Area of importance for the Mediterranean. It is one of the most important and largest maritime reserves in Catalonia.

These wild islands, located just 900 meters from the coast of L'Estartit and protected for more than 20 years, are a true paradise for diving or boat trips, although in the high season this causes situations such as that describes the image.

They had formerly been the preferred hiding place for pirates and, later, they were used by the Army as a surveillance place. They were inhabited until 1934, but currently the only construction is the Meda Gran lighthouse.

Its main attraction lies in the richness and diversity of the marine and terrestrial fauna and flora that it houses.

In the images, we can see the beauty of the effect of the garbinada and the waves on the beach. La Gola de Ter, also known as Playa de la Fonollera, is one of the most suggestive places on the entire Costa Brava.

Of enormous ecological interest, it forms a very long beach of fine golden sand, far from any type of human construction, which is why it is highly appreciated.

The mouth of the Ter or La Gola river is integrated into the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter, to the south of the municipality. In fact, on the horizon you can see the characteristic silhouette of the Medes Islands.
