Temperatures will continue to rise this Sunday as part of the first heat wave of the summer with a total of 27 provinces from nine autonomous communities at risk (yellow) or significant risk (orange), and with maximums of 43ºC, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Specifically, the high temperatures will put Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Seville, Zaragoza, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Badajoz, Cáceres, Madrid and Cádiz on orange alert, which will also be on yellow alert due to waves.
The heat will also especially affect Teruel, Huesca, Ávila, Salamanca, Valladolid, Zamora, Albacete, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, Murcia and Valencia, which will have a yellow warning.
The day will thus be marked by a practically generalized increase, except in the case of the maximum in the northwestern third, with temperatures that will exceed 35 degrees in large areas of the southern half of the peninsula, as well as in areas of the northern and northeastern plateau. .
Mercury will reach 36ºC in many areas of the peninsular interior and 38-39ºC in the Ebro valley, and will exceed 38-40ºC in a good part of the southwestern quadrant, especially in the valleys of the large rivers, with values of 40- 42ºC in those of the Guadiana and Guadalquivir. In Córdoba capital, 42ºC will be marked and in Badajoz up to 43ºC. For its part, the minimum will not drop below 20ºC on the Mediterranean coasts and the southwest quadrant.
In general, a stable day is expected in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands with a predominance of slightly cloudy or clear skies, although, in Galicia and the western Cantabrian area, cloudy skies or with intervals of low clouds will predominate with a low probability of some weak precipitation. in the northwest of Galicia and the Cantabrian mountain range.
This cloudiness will tend to dissipate in the south of Galicia at the same time that it will spread to the rest of the Cantabrian Sea and the upper Ebro throughout the day, the AEMET has detailed.
In addition, in the afternoon intervals of clouds of diurnal evolution are expected in large areas of the peninsular interior with storms, not always accompanied by precipitation, in the Pyrenees, east of the Northern plateau, and environments of the Central and Iberian system, in this case being able to reach to be locally strong and be accompanied by hail. Thus, Teruel, Zaragoza, Ávila, Burgos, Segovia, Soria, Guadalajara, Madrid, La Rioja will be at risk from storms.
In the Canary Islands, the day will be marked by intervals of low clouds in the north of the most prominent islands with probable light rain, while morning mists and fog banks are forecast in the interior of Galicia and the Cantabrian Mountains.
The wind, for its part, will blow from the east in Alborán and it is expected with strong intensity and very strong gusts in the Strait. Likewise, it is expected from the west in the Bay of Biscay and from the north in Galicia and the Canary Islands, while in the rest they will be weak variables with a predominance of the breeze regime on the coasts, and tending towards north and west components.
The AEMET warning for a heat wave will remain from this Sunday until next Wednesday, June 28, although it will be until Monday when values clearly higher than normal for this time of year will be reached in the southern half of the peninsula, especially in the southwestern quadrant.
Although on Monday there will be a drop in temperatures in the northern half, it is likely that they will continue to rise in the southern half, with highs around 40-43ºC in the valleys of the large rivers, without ruling out that locally they can reach 44ºC in the Guadalquivir valley, while they will be around 36ºC in the Ebro valley.
As of Tuesday the 27th, it is likely that a cooler air mass will penetrate from the north, which will lead to a slight and progressive drop in temperatures in the following days, also in the southern half, where very high temperatures will still remain. until Wednesday the 28th, so it is expected that temperatures will continue to exceed 40ºC in the Guadalquivir and Guadiana valleys.
