The Great Recapte starts with a risk of poverty of 24.7% in Catalonia

First there was the explosion of the real estate bubble, then the socioeconomic crisis derived from the covid pandemic and for a few months now the general increase in the prices of essential products due to inflation. One crisis has not been overcome until another comes.

In this context, with a 24.7% rate of risk of poverty or social exclusion in Catalonia, today begins the 15th edition of the Gran Recapte, the charity food collection organized by the Banc dels Aliments foundation.

Thousands of volunteers will encourage donations in supermarkets until tomorrow. But as happened last year, the initiative will be mixed, also accepting monetary donations at the establishments' checkouts or through the event website or through the popular Bizum application. In fact, although the volunteers finish their work tomorrow in the supermarkets, the Great Recapte will really last until November 30.

Last year, the figure of 6.3 million euros was reached between donations of products and money. The Banc dels Aliments appeals to repeat, or if possible increase, the amount collected.

As always, everything donated will be destined for the people most in need in collaboration with the associations spread throughout the territory. Throughout these years, the Gran Recapte has established itself as one of the most important solidarity activities in Catalonia.
