The Government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, has called a meeting with all the Catalan public administrations involved in the increase in the migratory flow in the Canary Islands so that all of them have updated information to continue working in a coordinated manner and to be able to manage arrivals. of these immigrants to Catalonia.
This meeting was attended by representatives of the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Catalan Association of Municipalities (ACM), the Federation of Municipalities of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, Red Cross, ACCEM, as well as Mossos d Squad, National Police, Civil Guard and the Medical Emergency Service (SEM).
Prieto has assured that the system implemented in the Canary Islands is working but that "in times of tension like now, with peaks in immigrant arrivals, it is necessary to make referrals to national territory to alleviate the situation on the islands" and that these referrals are made “punctual, orderly, safe and legal” manner within the reception system.
At the moment, Catalonia has already welcomed 1,955 adult migrants and 33 minors from the Canary Islands since the beginning of October, sources from the Generalitat have reported.
