Prieto has assured that the system implemented in the Canary Islands is working but that "in times of tension like now, with peaks in immigrant arrivals, it is necessary to make referrals to national territory to alleviate the situation on the islands" and that these referrals are made “punctual, orderly, safe and legal” manner within the reception system.

At the moment, Catalonia has already welcomed 1,955 adult migrants and 33 minors from the Canary Islands since the beginning of October, sources from the Generalitat have reported.
