The game of misunderstanding by Joan Pla

The game of equivocation. Joan Pla is the exhibition that has just been inaugurated in the Palau Solterra of the Vila Casas de Torroella de Montgrí Foundation, which we have visited in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

Thanks to the fact that the artist gave a large part of his work to the Foundation, we can now see an excellent sample of his photographic work.

Joan Pla (Barcelona, 1941-2023) began to dedicate himself fully to photography as an adult, so he was able to resume a passion that came to him from a very young age. He had friendships with renowned photographers such as Xavier Miserachs and Leopoldo Pomés.

The exhibition, as the title says, questions the reality captured by the camera lens and remains waiting for the viewer to enter into this game of dialogues.

All the photographs are grouped in the rooms of the Palau Solterra expressly to challenge us with the relationship they establish between them. They are in black and white and were made over several years.

The main feature of the photographs is the way in which a central composition stands out against a background, which is usually flat, white or black, while the shapes are those that have the volume of realism.

The exhibition indicates which series each image is from and what year it was made, thus making it clear what the argumentative discourse was when choosing the grouping of each set.
