The Ferrari start commanding in Barcelona

The Formula 1 Spanish GP started with the first free practice sessions, and once again the two Ferraris positioned themselves at the top of the time table, with leader Charles Leclerc in the lead. Those from Maranello remain one step ahead of the competition, despite the numerous changes and improvements introduced by all the teams.

The first test session had the two Ferraris as dominators, with Leclerc only 79 thousandths faster than his teammate Carlos Sainz. They were followed, at a considerable distance, three tenths, by Max Verstappen with Red Bull.

A step behind the two greats are, again, the Mercedes. But with the reverse hierarchy, with George Russell 4th, ahead of Hamilton, 6th, 7 and 9 tenths, respectively, from Leclerc. Fernando Alonso's Alpine sneaked into the middle of the Mercedes, 5th, 9 tenths behind the Monegasque.
