The European Public Prosecutor's Office opens an investigation into contracts with the 'Koldo plot'

The European Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a formal investigation into the contracts signed by the Canarian Health Service and that of the Balearic Islands for the supply of masks with the company Soluciones de Gestión, the epicenter of the Koldo plot.

After receiving a complaint from the general secretary of the PP of Madrid, the European Public Prosecutor's Office carried out various measures aimed at verifying its competence to investigate the alleged events.

Upon learning of the investigation opened in the National Court, the European Prosecutor's Office asked Judge Ismael Moreno to send it documentation of several contracts analyzed in the so-called Koldo plot due to suspicions that European funds could have been affected. This Prosecutor's Office also reproaches Anti-Corruption, which has directed this entire operation, for the lack of collaboration in this matter. In parallel with receiving all the documentation, it has already communicated the formal opening of an investigation.

It is not the first time that there has been a confrontation between both prosecutors. With the case of the brother of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, there was also a clash to see who would take over the investigation, which was finally archived. In a document provided in the case involving the former advisor of José Luis Ábalos, the European prosecutor demands the Anti-Corruption complaint from the instructor, as well as all the contract documents in which European funds may be affected.

Specifically, the General Secretariat of European Funds reported on August 11, 2022 that the company under investigation, Soluciones de Gestión, received contracts linked to the Feder operational programs of the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands from 2014 to 2020. After becoming aware of this, the Prosecutor's Office European Union demanded information from the Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, Alejandro Luzón. According to the first, he did not send any documentation beyond a decree.
