The emotional letter from Linda Blair, the girl from 'The Exorcist', to William Friedkin

Linda Blair was only 14 years old when 'The Exorcist' came out. In the film directed by William Friedkin, she gave life to Regan, the memorable girl possessed by the demon. After the death of Friedkin this Monday, August 7, the actress has fired the director with an emotional post on Instagram.

"Like Sidney Poitier's famous movie 'Rebellion in the Classrooms,' how do you put into words gratitude to the person who changed your life forever, as well as changed the world? Billy Friedken was a game changer, he thought. Furthermore, he was a genius with an incredibly bold personality and extraordinary films that wowed colleagues and moviegoers alike, and he remained a true maverick throughout his career in the film industry."

"All the actors wanted to work with him and perhaps my story is the most moving. He cast a 13-year-old girl and confirmed my stability to endure the journey he was about to take me and the world on. His direction came with exacting guidance, commitment and a strict work ethic. Her creative license with my performance was always stimulating and precise, with spot on direction for my performance as Regan. She went above and beyond with innovative special effects to ensure my performance was nothing less How shocking and unforgettable," he added.

In addition, the actress recalled Friedkin's attitude towards her after the success of the tape. "He fiercely protected me from the crazed crowds that reared their ugly heads on the day of the movie's opening. He understood my need to be connected to nature, my love of animals, and gave me my first horse, which I named Best Director in his honor. He supported my continued love for animals and my Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation, to change the world for animals."

"He was my director, friend and protector. It was an honor to know him and I am deeply saddened at this moment. He changed my life forever, along with the world, through my performance and all of my performances throughout my career. Rest in peace, my dear friend," he concluded.

Friedkin passed away at the age of 87 in Los Angeles. The filmmaker won an Oscar with 'The French Connection' in 1971, in addition to having directed other films such as 'The Boys in the Band', 'Jade' or 'The Hunted (La dam)'.
