The double strike of the Madrid health system anticipates a new white tide

Madrid public health professionals are called this Wednesday, April 19, to participate in two independent strikes to demand a 35-hour work week and other labor and remuneration improvements, when there are forty days left for the regional and municipal elections.

The first and most extensive of the calls comes from four of the five unions of the Health Sector Board (Satse, CCOO, CSIT-UP and UGT) and is addressed to the group of 78,000 workers in public hospitals, health centers, health and Summa 112, calls for unemployment from 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday until 10:00 p.m. this Wednesday.

Among other demands, they urge the Ministry of Health to recover the 35-hour work week and put an end to the loss of purchasing power that workers have suffered since the 2012 cuts.

These four unions, which have called another two days of strike on May 8 and 26 (two days before the elections), have organized a rally in Madrid this Wednesday at noon at the gates of the Gregorio Marañón hospital.

The second strike call for this Wednesday is signed by the remaining union of the Sector Table, Amyts (responsible for the indefinite strike of doctors from health centers that lasted between November and March), and AFEM, and concerns the doctors of the public hospitals in Madrid, where 12,000 physicians are called to strike between 08:00 on Wednesday and 08:00 on Thursday.

This is the third day of strikes carried out by hospital doctors after the successful strike of the

March 1 and 2. As stated by Amyts, "many fronts remain open and the Ministry of Health in the last meeting, for example, did not bring a specific position on the increase in the payment of on-call hours or other remuneration and supplements to resolve the remuneration grievance in the Community of Madrid with respect to the national average".

Among their requests, they highlight the implementation of the 35-hour work week in the Community of Madrid and the disappearance of the "subtraction" of 232 euros from the doctors' guards for the application of the 37.5-hour workday in the medical collective in Madrid hospitals.

The Amyts and AFEM unions, which already promoted two days of strikes among hospital doctors on March 1 and 2, will gather at 11:00 am at the doors of the Vice-Ministry of Health Care and Public Health, located at number 280 of the Paseo de la Castellana.

At the same time, the Mats, SummAT, AME and Sithpa3 unions will gather at the main gate of the 12 de Octubre hospital to show their support for the 35-hour strike, with an increase in staff, and for the quality of health care public.
