The Provincial Court of Alicante has confirmed a historic conviction in the case of the controversial 'caraanchoa' joke. The popular content creator known as 'Mr.GranBomba' must compensate the victim of the incident with 20,000 euros, a delivery man who was involved in the recording of a hidden camera that went viral in 2016.
The delivery man attacked the youtuber after being surprised with the term 'caraanchoa', which triggered a wave of reactions and comments on social networks.
The video in question, in which Mr.GranBomba approached people on the street using provocative language, caused a sensation on the YouTube platform. However, the prank took an unexpected turn when the delivery man confronted the creator and slapped him across the face. This episode drastically changed the life of the youtuber, who found himself facing accusations of libel and slander.
In 2018, Mr.GranBomba was acquitted of the charges, since the term 'caraanchoa' was not recognized in the dictionary of the Royal Academy of Language and, therefore, could not be considered an insult.
Time has brought new consequences. In 2023, the situation has turned around with the confirmation of the sentence. The already ex-youtuber has had to pay 20,000 euros in compensation to the dealer for moral damages, arguing an illegitimate interference with honor.
The sentence also considered the benefits generated by the sale of the Mr.GranBomba YouTube channel, which reached the figure of 15,000 euros when it was acquired by a company. This channel had more than half a million subscribers and was a significant source of income. For his part, the dealer was fined 30 euros for a minor offense of injury, a minor result compared to the financial penalty imposed on the creator.
Throughout this process, Mr.GranBomba has used various means to express his regret and apologize publicly. The former content creator stated that his intention was never to hurt anyone and that he is deeply sorry for the damage caused by the prank. However, he believes that he has been treated unfairly and has been affected by the magnitude of criticism and comparisons with more serious crimes.
