The commons warn ERC and Podemos of the temptation of not investing Sánchez

After the government agreement between Sumar and the PSOE was signed, the negotiation for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez may be facing its last hours. The pact with Junts per Catalunya for an amnesty law is almost ready, but Podemos has not stopped disqualifying the government agreement and ERC has raised its voice in recent days to try to obtain from the PSOE the commitments that they have been demanding to give their votes for the socialist candidate. That is why the commons have sent a double message today to Podemos and ERC in the face of the possible temptation of not investing Sánchez.

Podemos has publicly expressed its doubts about the lack of “concretion” of the agreement between Sumar and the PSOE and has once again called for “ministries” to “guarantee that this agreement materializes.” For their part, Republicans have openly expressed their discontent with the progress of the talks on issues such as Rodalies and the fiscal deficit. Faced with these complaints, the commoners warn that “it would not be understood that any progressive force would not support (the investiture) when the alternative is the right and the extreme right.”

At a press conference this Monday from the headquarters of the Commons, spokesperson Joan Mena did not want to openly point out either of the two formations, but from his words it is interpreted that the message is not only for ERC: “No progressive force can say that the agreement (between Sumar and PSOE) is a bad government agreement. “We have to unite all the progressive forces, also in Catalonia,” he said.

In any case, the nod to ERC was more specific by pointing out that although “we are facing a powerful agreement, which advances in social and labor content”, the reform of the financing system, which has expired since 2014, and the transfer of Rodalies, “are priorities for the common people,” he promised. And at this point, the common people declare themselves “optimistic from work” that the investiture will go ahead with the help of these parties. “We continue working to make it an agreement of the majority of progressive forces,” the spokesperson guaranteed.

The commons want to convince ERC that the demand to end the fiscal deficit can be satisfied thanks to the commitment that Sumar has extracted from the PSOE to reform the financing system “to make it more fair to Catalonia.” Thus, “if the financing reform has been included in the coalition agreement, it has been due to the presence and persistence of the commons in these negotiations,” Mena claimed.

In this sense, the forgiveness of the debt of the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA) is a nod to ERC since, according to the spokesperson, "not only are we in favor of this forgiveness but the financing agreement that we demand makes this reset." Furthermore, it is a demand that is not only demanded by the autonomous communities of the PSOE but also by some of the PP, Mena recalled.
