The Civil Guard rescues a group of 29 people who were lost in the Serra de Mallorca

This weekend, Civil Guard agents and a group of firefighters rescued a group of 29 hikers who were trapped on a cliff in the Serra de Tramuntana, in Mallorca, after getting lost while on an excursion. In the group were 26 minors who had gone to the mountain with their monitors, all of them very scared due to the adverse conditions in the area.

The minors and their monitors were rescued in Puig Tomir, which exceeds 1,000 meters in altitude, one of the mountains that crown the Serra de Tramuntana on the island. They had gone there for an excursion, but suddenly they lost their orientation and found themselves in danger in one of the high areas of the mountain due to the strong wind that was blowing in the area that day.

The rescue was carried out last Saturday in collaboration between agents of the Civil Guard and a team of firefighters. The emergency services received a notice that the group of 29 people was stuck and many of the minors were very scared due to the risk caused by the strong wind that hit the area.

Once the emergency services notified of the situation, the Special Mountain Intervention Group of the Civil Guard (GREIM) quickly moved to the scene with the helicopter, according to the Civil Guard. The rescue device flew over the area until it discovered the place where the group was, including the minors. The strong weather complicated the rescue efforts because the helicopter had problems operating in the area. The pilots managed to land the members of the rescue team on the ground near the place where the group was.

Both the monitors and the minors were exhausted, but in perfect health, so a plan was agreed upon to evacuate all of them with the collaboration of the firefighters. Groups of five people were formed with each rescuer, who moved by land. Three of the minors, those who were most exhausted, were evacuated by helicopter.

The Civil Guard reminds you that before going out to the mountains you must take into account the weather reports in order to avoid accidents. Last weekend the State Meteorological Agency had already warned that Mallorca would experience an episode of strong winds as a result of the passage of the storm Karlotta.
