The Civil Guard investigates the suicide of a 'trans' minor in case there was harassment

The Civil Guard investigates the circumstances of the death of a 'trans' minor in order to determine if the suicide was due to the fact that she suffered harassment due to her sexual condition. The fifteen-year-old girl took her own life a few days ago and there are elements to suspect that her decision may be related to this circumstance.

Ben Amics, the association that represents the LTGTBI collective in Mallorca, has asked that the case be studied because they have elements to believe that he took his own life because he suffered homophobic attacks. The association has sent a statement in which it ensures that the young woman identified herself in her social networks with the female gender, "that she did not correspond to the sex assigned at birth."

The association has urged the administrations to clarify what happened so that the young woman ended up committing suicide. It reminds other young people who are also subjected to bullying that they can present their case to the comprehensive care service provided by the Consell de Mallorca, which offers psychological and legal support to LGTBI people.

The acting Councilor for the Presidency and Equality of the Balearic Government, Mercedes Garrido, has condemned this harassment. She assures that the Government receives "with sadness" and "outrage" the news of the death of the minor. "This tragedy reminds us of the urgency to protect, validate and support the 'trans' community and make hate speech feverish," she adds.

The investigators have not given, for now, details of the circumstances of the death, but it is known that the minor committed suicide on June 22. Ben Amics insists that there are important elements to think that she was a victim of harassment by other adolescents in the municipality of Lloseta, where she lived.

The association asks that the circumstances of the death be clarified and that the elements to detect this type of harassment be reinforced and that these tragic circumstances are not repeated.
