According to the mayor, Adam Tomàs, the increase will leave the fiscal pressure in the municipality around six euros per inhabitant per month. "We had no choice: when we could lower taxes, we lowered them," he argued.
The municipal government of Amposta will increase the direct tax burden on citizens in line with what several cities in the territory have already announced.
"I believe that no city council, perhaps one that has extra income, does it, but with an increase in the CPI, bank interest, electricity, laying a shovel of asphalt costs three times as much as it did two years ago. We have the responsibility of ensuring that the municipal structure is sustainable and the investment," he assured.
Tomàs has said that an effort has been made to contain spending, within an increase in the CPI of 23% in the last eight years. The rate of waste prominently leads the increases, with 36%. According to Tomàs, it is a question of "adjusting" the receipt of the waste to the state waste law, which obliges the effective cost of management to be passed on before 2026.
"For all these years, the City Council has been assuming a deficit of half a million euros annually. Until now we have been able to do it, but not based on the law. The IBI is the other major chapter that also presents a notable increase. In that case, the urban tax rate increases by 10% to 0.986.
