The castellers build in Park Güell

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, I share the images of the Plaça de la Natura in the popular Park Güell in Barcelona where the human towers have joined forces to present, for the second consecutive year, its best pillars as a result of the efforts of the collas: The de Gràcia, Molins de Rei and Osona, which have delighted a dedicated public and some surprised tourists.

On the occasion of the Entities Fair of the Barrio de la Salut, where Park Güell is located, all day yesterday there were performances by schools, music groups, batucadas and the finishing touch was the effort of the castellers who , like the social entities of the neighbourhood, join forces to extol the little ones with the support of all.

The castellera tradition was born between the 18th and 19th centuries in Valls (Tarragona) and, currently, they are living their best moment, spread throughout practically all of Catalonia and part of the Levant.

The "castells" are erected by groups of people called "colles" of different ages who, as we see, not only collaborate on their pillars but also join efforts so that those of the other colles are a success, an example of teamwork, solidarity and resistance that has left the tourists who happened to be walking through the place speechless.

The most "castellera" time of year is between June and October, coinciding with good weather, although as we can see this sunny Saturday in May has made them shine like never before in an emblematic setting.
