This series of illustrations in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia see the characters of the three Tietes participating in the Fira Mercat Modernista, which is held in Canet de Mar on September 15, 16 and 17.

This 2023 is a special edition, because it coincides with the year of Lluís Domènech i Montaner, an architect closely linked to this town in the Maresme region.

This year marks the centenary of the death of the modernist architect, who left behind two great works declared World Heritage: the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.

The Fira Mercat Modernista is an interesting tourist and cultural experience that allows visitors and canetencs to travel back in time to relive the Canet of a hundred years ago for a weekend.

During the three days of the Fira, shows and different recreational and academic activities inspired by the architect have been scheduled, to honor one of the most important figures in the history of Catalonia and Canet de Mar.

Most of the Fira shows will take place in Plazas 1 d'Octubre and Universitat. And there will be shops and artisanal production stalls along the Sant Domènec and Busqueons streams.

New this year, Canet delves fully into the era of modernism with recreations of the society of 1900. On Ample Street, throughout Saturday and Sunday, the old Plaça de la Constitució market will be recovered and recreated historical scenes, processions, weddings, groups of bourgeois walking and you will even experience the social tension of the moment with workers' strikes.

Every 30 minutes there will be dramatized performances and also different demonstrations of the crafts of modernist artisans. There will be visits and the little train will go around the town.
