Last Christmas Eve, the family of Carlota, a 14-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, reported the theft in Córdoba of the custom-made wheelchair that the minor used to go outside. A week after the theft, the family still has no news about it.
"We remain the same. A lot has been shared on social networks, but no one knows anything about the chair and it does not appear," says the mother, Susana Jiménez, in statements to Europa Press, to whom she reported that the theft was reported that same night. December 24 at a National Police station in Córdoba.
The family went, together with Carlota, to celebrate Christmas Eve at their grandmother's house and, as on other occasions, they left the wheelchair in the stairwell. Hours later they realized that she had disappeared. "She was in a place that was not very visible from the street, because you had to cross the patio, which is very large, and under the stairs was the chair," explains her mother.
The young woman suffers from cerebral palsy and needs this special chair, made to measure and purple, to move around the house. After the theft, the rehabilitation doctor provided them with another one. "It's not Carlota's, but she is being a fix until the situation is resolved," she points out.
The mother explains that reordering a special wheelchair for her daughter "takes quite a few weeks," so it might not be available until after the Christmas holidays. "They would have to take measurements. It is made for her, it is not just any chair," reiterates Susana, who clarifies that it costs about 2,600 euros and is paid for by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS).
"Now I don't know if they can prescribe it to me again, because a certain amount of time has to pass. The chair is a year old. I don't know if they will want to do me a favor with this theft case, but I'm waiting for what they tell me." ", he indicates.
Meanwhile, the mother is grateful for the great displays of solidarity from her city, which has gone out of its way to support the family. "People have offered us their chair, they have called me from a lot of associations and they have wanted to make collections," she says.
