Spectacular fog on Gavà beach, in Baix Llobregat. In this photograph in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we can see the plane inside the fog giving a ghostly and captivating touch to the image.

Fog is a meteorological phenomenon that consists of the suspension of very small water droplets in the atmosphere or of moist hygroscopic particles, which reduce horizontal visibility to a distance of one kilometer or more. If there is a vision of 1 km or less it is considered fog.

Today, commercial airplanes fly with sophisticated navigation systems, with sensors that allow them to receive signals from radio aids, GPS and other devices, which are connected to each other to detect anomalies.

Furthermore, the work carried out by air traffic controllers and the systems that prevent collisions with other aircraft or with the terrain is very important.

Although the human factor is always decisive, instrument flight is insurance for passengers today.
