The Department of Territory of the Generalitat has put out to tender the works to rehabilitate and improve various structures of the C-31 between the municipalities of Sant Adrià de Besòs and Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) with the aim of guaranteeing a good state of conservation and promoting safety road The work, which is being put out to tender for an amount of 1.8 million euros, will begin next spring and will have a completion period of six months.
From Badalona, the investment is viewed with a certain skepticism. The mayor, Xavier Garcia Albiol, has declared that the investments that come to Badalona "will always be well received" but he understands that the case of the highway must be worked on in the longer term. "Our goal is to eliminate C-32," he says, because of the impact it has and because "it divides the city."
Specifically, the works will cover the trunk viaduct of the C-31 at kilometer 209,775 that crosses the urban network of Sant Adrià de Besòs and Badalona, and two secondary viaducts that make up the exit and entry branches on the C-31. . These are structures that were built at the end of the 60s and the damage that has occurred due to the passage of time makes it advisable to repair them.
The main viaduct has a length of more than 1,000 meters and is made up of 18 sections with a reinforced concrete slab and 82 prefabricated beams, supported by up to a hundred piers of various types. The other two viaducts are made up of 15 sections of 14 piers each.
The works that will be carried out will consist mainly of repairing the defects detected, especially in the piles, they will consist of cleaning and repairing the concrete faces that are affected, painting protective paint on concrete faces and repairing and waterproofing of expansion joints.
The Department of Territory will work together with the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council to coordinate and minimize the effects that the execution of the works may entail.
This action complements other works that de Territori has carried out in this area of the C-31; Thus, it has recently completed the improvement work on a 7-kilometer stretch between Sant Adrià de Besòs and Montgat, which has included the laying of a new pavement with a noise-reducing treatment and contributing to the improvement of air quality. This work has had an investment of 4.3 million euros.
