Technology applied to Real Estate, an investment that is taking off strongly in Spain

According to the latest Proptech Global Trends barometer, published by the Real Estate Agents of Catalonia (AIC) association, proptech in Spain will receive an investment of 903.5 million euros this year in 2023, making it the 5th country in the world that attracts more investment in this new modality of the real estate sector. And the term does not go unnoticed: proptech combines the concepts of property and technology to refer to all those companies and organizations that use technology to improve or reinvent services within the real estate sector.

New technologies, such as machine learning, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence or geolocation are essential to promote a more sustainable real estate industry, with the ability to develop and reinvent smart cities of the future. New parameters, proposals and opportunities that reinvent the rules of the game in the real estate sector to build a better world. In fact, according to the report by the real estate consultancy CBRE, Spain is the third European market with the highest investment in proptech behind the United Kingdom and France, becoming one of the largest European innovation hubs in the housing sector.

The advancement of the 'proptech' sector is essential in the era of the new economy, as well as in the creation of talent and the development of specialized knowledge. For this reason, this sector will be one of the key topics in the fourth edition of the Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW), the disruptive and unique event created by the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium (CZFB). BNEW will be held between October 2 and 5 at the DFactory Barcelona, a unique building in the city of Barcelona that has open, diaphanous, digital spaces, and that is committed to the 2030 Agenda.

This fourth edition will bring together 500 speakers who will offer up to 140 hours of content distributed in 100 panels, sessions and debates to share knowledge and establish synergies that will contribute to the progress of Industry 4.0 and the new economy.

Thanks to the successful hybrid format of the BNEW – in-person and online – the event can position Barcelona as the capital of the new economy. A deserved title: during the four days of celebration, the B2B public will have the opportunity to listen to debates and panels on seven verticals involved in global transformation: Proptech, Health, Mobility, Digital Industry, Sustainability, Talent and Experience. The panels were expressly selected, adapting to current trends and exploring aspects related to the new opportunities and economic transformations that are taking place.

As Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State at the CZFB, explains: “Thanks to this meeting, Barcelona will once again become the capital of digitalization where different businesses will be able to connect with each other to advance and promote projects of social and economic impact. Industry 4.0 is advancing at a dizzying pace and with this fourth edition we could not leave aside the proptech sector, which is experiencing a most important advance towards the new economy.”

In this way, the Proptech vertical, under the motto 'Building a better world', will present the technological tools applied to Real Estate that respond to the needs of developers, investors, banks and financial entities, real estate advisors, interior design companies and architecture, insurance companies and auxiliary industry. BNEW Proptech will have the collaboration of API, the largest group of real estate agents in Catalonia, with more than 500 approved members. This vertical will also define the revolution that new technologies are bringing about in the real estate sector, and in the definition of smart cities and intelligent buildings. It will present how the use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) influences the search for housing, and how the era of the new economy is also changing housing policies and transforming the real estate landscape.

Likewise, the use of disruptive technologies such as Blockchain to make smart contracts in this sector will also be questioned, and how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning contribute to the progress and development of the real estate industry, and the uses we can give them. And we cannot forget the role of sustainability in this sector: home automation architecture, green and smart buildings, energy and sustainable efficiency, as well as the fintech revolution and new business models in the property sector will also have their impact. leadership.

This edition of BNEW will also have vertical programs dedicated to sustainability, the digital industry, talent, sustainable mobility and health, in addition to continuing to support the BNEW Experience: a broad cultural proposal where you can enjoy gastronomy, design and art of a city with a great attraction such as Barcelona, which will once again surprise all attendees.

For her part, Blanca Sorigué, general director of the CZFB, adds that “BNEW was born with a clear international vocation and with the objective of advancing towards the new economy, especially taking into account the key role of digitalization, sustainability and achieving of the Sustainable Development Goals”.

One of the most relevant events of the BNEW will once again be the BNEW Best Innovation awards, within the Startup Innovation Hub, which will recognize the work of the most disruptive startups in the sectors present at the event.
