Tarragona awards the drafting of the project to renaturalize the Francolí river for 188,000 euros

The Tarragona City Council has awarded the drafting of the naturalization project for the Francolí River river system. The company Engisic Solucions i Consulting SL will be in charge of the work for 187,829.51 euros -VAT included- and will have seven months to present the proposal.

The renaturalization of the Francolí River as it passes through Tarragona is the largest investment of the Tarragona GreAdenBelt'26 project, endowed with a total investment of 3.6 million euros by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and financed by the Next fund Generation.

According to the Councilor for the Environment of the Tarragona City Council, Guillermo García de Castro, it will mean "a change at an environmental and social level for the city, so that citizens can recover a currently degraded space."

At the same time, he points out that renaturalization "will have to consolidate a notable restitution of the functioning and natural dynamics of the river in its lower section, having a positive impact on the ecological quality of the body of water and its connecting character and social value."

The project must refer to actions of a more structural nature on the environment and other changes in the morphology of the banks or the river channel to favor fluvial morphodynamics.

It will also detail the environmental measures that will be proposed in order to improve the quality of the riparian vegetation and the river system. These may be, among others, actions to eliminate and control invasive species, structural improvement of the riparian forest, actions to defragment and restore the ecological continuity of the habitat or the installation of solid waste retention systems.
