Sumar trusts that Calviño's departure will facilitate an agreement on unemployment benefits

The confrontation between the Ministries of Economy and Labor over unemployment benefits is frontal. They are two projects with divergent and opposing approaches on some points. Today, Sumar has flatly rejected the proposal from the department headed by Nadia Calviño. “We cannot imagine that the PSOE is going to accept this cut and Sumar is not going to accept it,” said Sumar's spokesperson and Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, at a press conference, insisting that the subsidy “is not It is a gift, it is an earned right” and that they will continue to defend this approach with whoever is Calviño's replacement at the head of the Economy.

In this area, Sumar's feeling is "hopeful" in understanding that Calviño's departure to the EIB could facilitate an agreement on subsidies that is in line with the proposal defended by the Ministry of Labor. This has been stated by sources from the confederal space since the confirmation of the appointment of the Minister of Economy last Friday.

The reform of these subsidies, which is in a hurry because it is included among the milestones of the recovery plan that must be met before the end of the year, is a new episode of the confrontation between Nadia Calviño and Yolanda Díaz, in this case, also, with public statements forceful, especially on the part of the Minister of Labor. Sumar has insisted today that the Economy approaches are closer to the PP proposals.

When examining the two proposals, a difference in basic approach is observed. The Labor Law is based on extending the subsidy in both the number of beneficiaries and the amount, while limiting the compatibility of subsidies and salaries to a maximum of 45 days. On the other hand, the Economy is based on stimulating precisely this compatibility between salary and subsidy, on deriving some subsidies to the Minimum Living Income and on reinforcing Activity Control, that is, more control over compliance with the conditions by the recipients. . With these measures, Economía estimates that 340,000 jobs would be created in two years.
