Solar halo over a sea of fog, what does it indicate?

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can contemplate the solar halo over the sea of fog that covered the Plain of Vic today shortly after the beautiful candlelight at dawn in Sant Bartomeu del Grau, an elevated area of Lluçanès, but in the region of Osona .

The solar halo was diffuse between the clouds, as can be seen in one of the snapshots. The important thing is that this optical phenomenon predicts rain, let's see if the omen comes true.

In fact, choppy weather is expected with rain during the early hours of Friday and another front that will sweep Catalonia during the first half of Saturday.

This situation will bring a lot of snow in the Pyrenees and rain in general throughout the Catalan territory. However, it will be a situation that will have little influence a priori on the state of drought emergency that we are experiencing.

The solar halo forms around the sun, presenting an iridescent ring on its outer circumference, due to ice crystals when there are high clouds.

The halo is caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light, generating a spectrum of colors around the Moon or Sun.
