It has already become commonplace. Every time the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, visits Barcelona on his political agenda, whether to meet with the Catalan Executive or under any other pretext, the general secretary and leader of the PSOE meets with the first secretary of the PSC, Salvador Illa, who was his Minister of Health at the beginning of the covid pandemic. This time he has been no exception.
Sánchez and Illa met early this afternoon at the headquarters of the Catalan socialists, at the Casal Socialista Joan Reventós. According to a statement issued by the PSC, both leaders have analyzed the political situation and have shared the main challenges for Catalonia and Spain for 2024.
This meeting took place after Sánchez's meeting with the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, at the Palau de la Generalitat. Previously, the two presidents coincided at the inauguration of the Mare Nostrum 5 supercomputer, at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
After the closed-door meeting between Illa and Sánchez, other prominent members of the PSC leadership have joined the meeting, such as the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni; the president of the Diputación de Barcelona, Lluïsa Moret; the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales; and the Councilor of Girona City Council Sílvia Paneque.
