Sánchez foresees legal reforms with which to overcome the espionage crisis

Pedro Sánchez returned to Moncloa yesterday, after his trip to the Davos economic forum, ready to bridle a Pegasus that, despite the fact that the head of the director of the CNI has already been claimed, continues to run amok and threatens the course of the legislature before the CKD irritation. The President of the Government will appear today in Congress, in a high-tension monographic plenary session, to announce the initiatives that he will adopt in the face of the espionage scandal against the independence movement.

Sánchez has several legislative reforms on the table with which to try to redirect this crisis. On the one hand, the modification of the old Law of Official Secrets is scheduled in the Government's regulatory plan. The president is also willing to reform the law that regulates the CNI, to reinforce the judicial guarantees of listening to it, in line with the opinion of the Ombudsman in the Pegasus case.

Relations between the Government and ERC are going through a critical moment since the espionage of the CNI on Pere Aragonès and other pro-independence leaders was revealed. The planned appointment between Sánchez and the president of the Generalitat has not yet materialized, twenty days after both agreed to meet to address the serious situation during their last meeting in Barcelona. Despite the fact that Moncloa insists that the institutional dialogue between the two executives is "good", and that it was never broken, the last call from Sánchez to Aragonès that has been reported since then occurred on May 16 , to convey his sorrow for the railway accident in Sant Boi de Llobregat. Government sources explained that, given the seriousness of the event, they did not talk about anything else.

The call for the dialogue table between the two executives, which has not met since September of last year, is also still up in the air. Now waiting for the Andalusian elections of 19-J.

The change of criteria of the Supreme Court to review the pardons for those convicted of the procés adds fuel to the fire. In Moncloa they assure that the grace measures were elaborated and argued in a meticulous way, "following the Supreme Court's own doctrine", to shield them from the resources of the right. And yesterday, Minister Félix Bolaños insisted that the pardons were “absolutely legal” and served “a greater purpose”, by managing to overcome the “unbearable tension” that Catalonia was experiencing and opening a new stage of dialogue. Bolaños urged ERC to persevere in "useful politics." "Do not abandon the dialogue, because it is the only way forward," he demanded of them.

The clash for the candidacy of the Olympic Games in the Pyrenees adds tension. In the Government they trust in being able to save the candidacy, but they warn: "It will be necessary to row a lot". Also to rebuild the relationship with ERC. Although socialist leaders point out that the Republicans cannot break ties either: "They have no choice."
