Actress Sigourney Weaver, three-time Oscar nominee and winner of the Bafta and the Golden Globe, will receive the 2024 International Goya on February 10 in Valladolid, as announced this Tuesday by the Film Academy.
Sigourney Weaver will be awarded the third International Goya in history, after Cate Blanchett (2022) and Juliette Binoche (2023). This award, according to the Academy, has been created to "recognize personalities who contribute to cinema as an art that unites cultures and viewers from around the world."
The Academy highlights that it is awarded for "her impressive career full of unforgettable films" and inspiration "by creating complex and strong female characters" and adds that she is one of the "most recognized actresses in the film industry."
The American actress, who received the 2016 Donostia Award from the San Sebastian Festival, is known for her role as Lieutenant Ripley in Alien or Dian Fossey in Gorillas in the Mist. "Over the years, she has captivated audiences and earned their admiration as one of the most beloved performers on stage and screen worldwide," notes the Academy.
Additionally, his career includes box office hits such as Avatar, Ghostbusters; dramas such as The Good House, Dreams of a Writer in New York, We're All Jane, The Year of Living Dangerously, My Map of the World and The Ice Storm, for which she won the BAFTA. Likewise, she has also participated in The Master Gardener, The Forest, Death and the Maiden and Copycat; and comedies in which she has shown her comedic vision such as Heroes out of Orbit, The Seductresses, The Curse of the Holes or Weapons of a Woman, for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress at the same gala in who won the award for Best Leading Actress for Gorillas in the Fog.
His work extends beyond the big screen, with critically acclaimed television series such as Prayers for Bobby, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Call My Agent! and Political Animals.
