Several illegal dog breeders that sold puppies online dismantled in Girona

The Civil Guard has dismantled two illegal dog kennels in Vilopriu (Baix Empordà) and Sant Jordi Desvalls (Gironès) and is investigating its three managers, who were selling the puppies through several websites.

Those investigated imported animals from Eastern European countries and moved them to rural properties that they had rented and used as breeding farms without having any type of administrative authorization or health control.

On these farms, they sexually overexploited adult animals in order to obtain the greatest number of litters per year. As reported today by the Civil Guard, the state of the facilities and animals "was terrible" and did not meet the "minimum guarantees of hygiene and health" for the puppies.

The three investigated offered the puppies over the Internet, selling them directly or through pet stores. To carry out these actions, they used different telephone lines in the names of former employees, who had no knowledge of the events.

The case was uncovered following a complaint filed at the end of March before the Seprona of the Girona Civil Guard command for the improper use and without consent of a zoological nucleus number that was used fraudulently to trade in dogs in different web pages.

Seprona has closed the illegal facilities and has distributed the animals among different shelters in Catalonia. Seprona advises visiting the facilities where the dogs are housed when purchasing a pet and asks that it not be purchased online without verifying the origin.
