In the surroundings of Estany Gran d'Amitges, in the Pallars Sobirà, a high mountain refuge of the Pyrenees emerges which is located at 2365 meters of altitude.

As can be seen in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, the landscape is impressive. It is not for nothing that we are in the domains of the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.

In addition, the refuge of Amitges is a good starting point for numerous ascents, among them the Tuc de Ratera, the Tuc de Saborèdo, the Pic d'Amitges or the top of the Bassiero, and crossings towards the Circo de Colomèrs, the of Saborèdo or the Gerber Valley. Of course, they are more aimed at experienced mountaineers.

The mountain lodge offers accommodation, food and service to hikers. Places are limited and if you want to sleep it is necessary to make a prior reservation.

The Estany Gran d'Amitges includes a small dam that forms the Espot Lakes marsh. It is located in the Coma d'Amitges, between the crest of Bassiero, the Agulles d'Amitges and the refuge of Amitges, and has an area of 6.63 ha. It is located about 15 meters below the Barbs and Munyidera ponds, which drain into it.
