Sau without water: the most recent shocking images of the swamp

The Sau reservoir (Osona) is one of the emblems of Catalonia due to its striking location and the images it offers. However, in the context of the drought that the country is going through and the emergency situation due to lack of rain, this location has become a symbol of the worrying absence of water.

This is shown by the latest photographs in the Sau reservoir by Emilio Morenatti (AP), who has portrayed a situation of extreme drought with an absolutely desolate landscape that could be part of a scene from a play set on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

The figures are as worrying as the images: currently the Sau reservoir is at 4.60% of its capacity or, in other words, only 7.67 hm3 of water of the 165.26 that the iconic reservoir can hold. Catalan.

The numbers do not lie and show the impact of the drought of recent months in Catalonia: while today the water only occupies 7.67 cubic hectometres, last year it filled 30.67hm3 and the average for the last 10 years is 105, 82 hm3.

For this reason, in the images you can see such worrying scenes as the old church of the town of Sau completely freed from the waters that normally submerge it almost to the top, while now it is only accompanied by arid land.

The Sau reservoir is another of the victims of the drought in Catalonia, which has already led the Generalitat to take some measures to combat it and which could bring new limitations due to the lack of rainfall.
