Ribera announces an agreement with the wind industry to guarantee investments

The third vice president and minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, announced this Wednesday an agreement between the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Wind Business Association (AEE) to defend the wind industry on our continent and our country.

The agreement will be titled the Spanish Wind Energy Charter and in it the Government undertakes to change the criteria for wind auctions so that they go “beyond the low price”, which has prevailed until now in the awards. The new processes will value “supporting this vocation for innovation, for employment, and also for streamlining and giving visibility to the deadlines and temporary forecasts of new developments,” Ribera explained in statements to the press within the framework of WindEurope 2024, the largest event. of the sector that is held every two years in Bilbao. Along with the vice president was Juan Diego Díaz, president of the Wind Business Association (AEE), which brings together 350 companies.

“Very important commitments have been made by the industry. Reinforcing environmental precautions, development and positive implications of local communities, job creation. Commitment to improving performance, the integration of that seal made by and in Europe that demonstrates the quality of the products and the constant commitment to reinvest in the improvement of these solutions in terms of renewable energy,” explained the company. vice president.

The Spanish Charter is a national adaptation to which was signed on December 19 with the entire European industry, at the request of the Spanish presidency of the Union. “although the Spanish one is better,” according to Ribera herself.

Among other planned actions, the Spanish letter includes the reinforcement of manufacturing capacities in the wind sector and another line of action has to do with the activation of levers in the field of administration, incorporating added value criteria in the auctions "beyond of the pure price".

In addition, the environmental and social excellence of the projects is emphasized to improve their integration in the territory and their processing and, within the framework of the predictability of the integration of renewables in the system, they are committed to promoting the electrification of energy demand.

The declaration also includes the activation of levers and commitments in the field of companies in the wind sector and includes seeking excellence in the technology to be installed, with a long-term vision. The creation at European level of a "Made by Europe" seal of technological and industrial wind excellence will also be promoted. Likewise, work will be done to facilitate the predictability of supply and demand and to contribute to a "fair and competitive" international environment in line with the commitments of the European Wind Charter.
