Puigdemont endorses that Sánchez continues if he is willing to reach a historic agreement for Catalonia

"If there is a prime minister called Pedro Sánchez and he is willing to reach a historic agreement with Catalonia, I am interested in him continuing. But his name is Pedro Sánchez or whatever his name is." Former president Carles Puigdemont supports Sánchez's continuity as head of the central executive if he maintains the negotiation that he opened with Junts per Catalunya after the investiture last November.

Puigdemont, post-convergent candidate in the Parliamentary elections on May 12, has spoken in these terms in an interview with Europa Press, when there are two days left for the President of the Government to reveal whether he will resign or continue leading his cabinet in the Moncloa. .

Thus, the leader of Junts is willing to maintain his support for the central Executive if the other party fulfills what was agreed in Brussels, in the agreement for the investiture. "If you are willing to maintain the commitment that we must reach and go to the end, we have no problem, but we will always decide with whom we negotiate based on compliance. If things are fulfilled, we will comply," argues the independence leader.

At first, the former Catalan president already urged Sánchez to submit to a question of confidence if he considers that his presidency is weakened and now reiterates that position. Regarding JxCat's position if necessary, Puigdemont advocates taking advantage of the opportunities that open up: "Many times, the crises of the Spanish political system have represented opportunities for the Catalan political system."

In a scenario in which Sánchez resigns, Puigdemont warns the socialists that if they want to continue governing and with their support, they must comply with what was agreed. "If they want to continue governing in Spain, right now they must agree with us, yes or yes, or they will not govern in Spain," summarizes the post-convergent leader. "If the person in front of us is Pedro Sánchez, I don't have any problem. But if the one we have is someone else and he delivers, and we double down and take advantage of the opportunity, I wouldn't have any problem either," he adds.

Likewise, given the possibility that a resignation of the President of the Government would imply the paralysis or decline of the Aminstía law, which is now stuck in the Senate and must return to Congress before the summer for its final approval and for it to come into force, Puigdemont maintains the commitment to return to Catalonia for the investiture debate.
