Prohens will keep Vox in the presidency of the Parliament but demands political stability

The Balearic president Marga Prohens guaranteed this Monday that the PP will maintain its commitment that the presidency of the Balearic Parliament remains in the hands of Vox, but at the same time she has called on her partners to also comply with the pact signed at the time and guarantee the support of the eight deputies to maintain a stable government. The Balearic Islands are immersed in a serious institutional crisis after five of the eight Vox deputies mutinied and decided to expel the president of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, and the president of the party in the archipelago, Patricia de las Heras, from the parliamentary group.

The expulsion of the president automatically implies that a new one must be elected, but the measure has not been made effective for now since the Parliament Board is waiting for a report that it requested from the lawyers on whether the expulsion is effective and, In that case, how the new president should be elected. In parallel, the national leadership of Vox has opened a file for the expulsion of the mutinous deputies, who have been provisionally suspended from militancy.

The two parties of Vox have opened a negotiation process and have signed a truce while they negotiate, but time is of the essence because this week there is a Parliament Table that could decide to open the procedure for the replacement of the president. The five deputies temporarily suspended from militancy have already announced that they will present an alternative candidate if the process to renew the presidency of the Chamber is opened since they insist that Le Senne cannot continue in office.

In this context, the national leadership of Vox has called on the Balearic president to maintain her pact, support Le Senne continuing as president of the Chamber and not agree with turncoats on a claim that the two opposition parties have also made. , PSOE, Més and Podemos.

The PP has 25 deputies in the Parliament and needs five more votes to maintain the absolute majority, precisely the five votes that the mutinous sector of Vox has. That is the main reason why Santiago Abascal's leadership has warned Prohens not to be tempted to make a turncoat the new president of the Chamber or to rely on them to govern.

Prohens, who has remained outside the Islands during these days, insisted this Monday that the PP will support the president of the Parliament proposed by Vox, but at the same time he has asked his partners that they also comply with their pact and guarantee the eight votes that they offered at the beginning of the legislature. "We have not failed to comply nor will we; now it is time for Vox to comply," Prohens assured.

"We will not break our word or the investiture agreement, but Vox must tell us who its candidate is, if there is a change of candidate," added the Balearic president. Regarding the possibility of the PP presenting its own candidate to resolve the crisis given the deep division of its partners, Prohens has indicated that, at the moment, they are not in that scenario.

Prohens has maintained contacts with the national leadership of Vox to call on them to resolve the crisis. "We have been demanding from the first moment that this situation stop, that they sit down and meet and if they are gathered, it is good news," he assured. "I urge you to accelerate this reconciliation," he concluded.
