"Empowering women who empower" is the objective of the Maga de Magas awards that were held yesterday, by the hand of magasIN from El Español, their first edition recognizing the successful career of nine journalists, in an act held at the headquarters of the Madrid Press Association.
The winners of this award promoted by Cruz Sánchez de Lara, vice president of El español and editor of magasIN and Enclave ODS have been: Joana Bonet, director of La Vanguardia Magazine; Lourdes Garzón, director of Mujer Hoy; Inma Jiménez, editorial manager of Harper's Bazaar; Ana Núñez-Milara, director of Yo Dona; Benedetta Poletti, editorial manager of ELLE; Olga Ruiz, director of Telva; Covadonga O'Shea, editorial manager of Telva; Yolanda Sacristán, 'brand manager' of Forbes Woman; and Charo Izquierdo, director of magasIN.
As the editor-in-chief of magasIN, Marta Lahuerta, remarked, it is an award for “journalism that talks about fashion, beauty, but also about many other things. He is the one who helps other women to be inspired, to grow, to know where they want to be, to find the right information, to listen to life stories, to discover references”.
Joana Bonet wanted to vindicate the value of “women's magazines which, for more than three decades, were the only media that held a conversation with women, that informed and promoted them. Often her platitudes about her alleged frivolity have overshadowed her contribution to equality. Therefore, these have been unusual prizes, which have repaired a historical debt with this sector”.
Sánchez de Lara remarked that, with these awards, he intends to demonstrate that in a changing society in which "our competition is all those who do not tell the truth or who generate content that lacks rigor" we must work together, and united, for the progress of journalism.
Along with the winners, the professionals who delivered the awards stood out: Teresa Arsuaga, writer and mediator; Esther Esteban, president of El Digital de Castilla-la Mancha; Charo Izquierdo, advisor to magasIN; the journalist Gloria Lomana, Cristina Rodríguez, head of Administration and Accounting of the Morillas group; Mamen Vázquez, general director of El Español; Mercedes Wullich, advisor to MagasIN and founder of 'The Top 100 Women Leaders'; and María Cudeiro, director in Spain and Portugal of Croma Pharma. The event was attended by a hundred personalities linked to communication and the business field.
