PP and Ciudadanos break off negotiations and will not go together to the Catalan elections

Ciudadanos has announced, in a joint statement with the PP, that both parties "regret not having been able to reach a satisfactory agreement" to participate hand in hand in the next European and Catalan elections. The orange formation points out that it has been the "internal tensions as well as the external noise that these have produced" that have made the agreement impossible, in which the formula was not yet established. The popular ones defended "integration" under their own acronym. Due to the failure of the negotiations, the general secretary of the liberal formation. Adrián Vázquez has presented his resignation.

The allusions to "internal tensions" refer to the situation in Catalonia and the call for 12-M. This same morning, the president of the Catalan party, Carlos Carrizosa, pointed out on RNE his opposition to joining a PP list by opposing the "disintegration" of a party that was born in Catalonia. It will be necessary to see, therefore, if the popular ones - both in Catalonia and in view of the European elections - offer the incorporation of some of the Citizen positions on an individual basis to their lists, although at the moment this is not foreseen in Catalonia.

During the negotiating process, the popular party had made it known that with regard to the Catalans they wanted to limit the eventual presence of representatives of Ciutadans. Faced with a complex and important legislature, they did not want to run the risk that the orange representatives could leave the group.

The PP and the orange party had begun negotiating an agreement for the European elections months ago, with the incorporation of Adrián Vázquez, and the unforeseen call for the Catalan elections has stood in the way. The general secretary of the liberals has made his position available to the party "immediately" so that "others can take the reins."

In the statement, Ciudadanos points out that the "political context and the drift of the parliamentary majority that supports the Government requires exceptional measures." And that is why he regrets that this agreement could not be reached.

The leaderships of both parties appreciate "the good negotiating disposition" of the delegations, and are committed to continuing to collaborate. This afternoon mass the National Citizens Committee is convened
