Paulo Bento resigns as South Korea coach

Paulo Bento, the South Korea coach, announced, after losing against Brazil, that he is no longer coach of the Asian team and that the decision was made in September.

Bento, South Korea's coach since 2018, stated at a press conference that he has communicated the decision to his players and the federation and that he had been clear about it since September.

"I am satisfied with the work of these four years. I thank you for the trust," said Bento after losing 4-1 against Brazil in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

"At this moment it is not easy to make a summary of everything that has happened in the World Cup, especially since it has not finished yet, I can only tell you about our participation that has ended today. It has ended in a very fair way, we have to congratulate Brazil, because it has been better", he highlighted.

"The end of the game is something to be proud of, like the four years that have brought us here. What we did during the group stage was very good, because of how we played, because we reached the round of 16 for the third time in history", added Bento, who, as he did before the game, criticized the little preparation they had for the game: barely 72 hours.

"We have not been able to prepare as we wanted and it has made it very difficult," he concluded.
