Parliament will today remove the seat from Laura Borràs, who will no longer be president

The first vice-president of the Parliament, Alba Vergès, has called for this afternoon an extraordinary meeting of the Bureau of the Parliament and the Board of Speakers to remove the seat of the suspended president of the Chamber, Laura Borràs, after dismissing the Supreme Court (TS ) the appeal of both the Chamber and the deputy herself against the decision of the Central Electoral Board (JEC) to withdraw the minutes.

Until now, the Parliament had alleged that it was pending the decision made by the Supreme Court on the precautionary measures requested by both the Catalan Chamber and the president of Junts herself.

The suspended president appealed to the Supreme Court for the very precautionary suspension of the JEC resolution of May 3, which annulled her credentials as a deputy after considering that there was a cause of ineligibility that occurred after her criminal conviction by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC). The decision of the Supreme Court to reject the very precautionary measures was known on May 8, but it was not until this Thursday when the Parliament received the notification from the court.

The Parliament also requested for its part an ordinary precautionary suspension, not a very precautionary one, in which case the Supreme Court gave the JEC ten days to present allegations.

Borràs was sentenced to four and a half years in prison and 13 years of disqualification for prevarication and document falsification for dividing contracts and awarding them by hand to a friend when she directed the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes, although the same court recommended in its sentence the pardon of the custodial sentence.

The next plenary session of the Catalan Chamber, probably next week in an extraordinary way or within two, in this case ordinary, will have to decide the replacement and everything indicates that Junts per Catalunya will retain the presidency since Esquerra has already stated that he intends to respect the agreement by which Pere Aragonès was invested in 2021 and which meant that Junts would retain the presidency of Parliament.

The acting mayoress of Vic, Anna Erra, sounds like the best positioned candidate to become president of Parliament.
