Orpheus descends to hell from the metaverse with Insectotròpics

The fifth Insectotròpics show, Orpheus, premieres today at Plaça Margarida Xirgu in Barcelona, as part of the Grec festival. Two free screenings, today and tomorrow at 10 pm, where the Barcelona company passes the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through the filter of the 21st century digital universe.

Insectotròpics, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary, brings together tradition and future, as it has done with productions such as La Caputxeta galàctica (2012) or Cançó de Nadal (2020).

The musician and poet Orfeo is devastated by the death of his beloved Eurydice and, with the help of the Spiritcom, a virtual immersion machine, and accompanied by the power of his music, he launches himself into Hades determined to bring Eurydice back to life.

This hell is "a world where virtuality generates a new paradigm of confrontation between life and technology, and the border between reality and the metaverse dissolves and demands, in the face of great technological pressure, an urgent ethical review," the company refers.

For this montage, a collaboration of Grec 2022 and Territori Creatiu by FiraTàrrega, has the interpretation of Bru Ferri, Elena Martinell, Xanu, Laia Ribas, iEX and André Cruz.

This summer, Orpheus will be presented at the Sommerwerft festival in Frankfurt, will stop at FiraTàrrega in September, where Insectotròpics opened the 2015 edition with Compra'm, and will then go to London's Bell Square. In addition, at the Sziget festival in Budapest, he recovers his previous show, The legend of burning man.
