Orange renews its dome in Spain in full merger with MásMóvil

Orange announced on Tuesday the appointment of Ludovic Pech as the new CEO of its subsidiary in Spain, replacing Jean-François Fallacher, who will lead Orange in France from then on.

Pech, until now current CFO of Orange Middle East

As explained by the company, Fallacher, who has been the leader of this merger, is not withdrawing from the process, but will continue to “follow closely the operations of Orange Spain where he will remain as a member of its board of directors.

The merger agreement between Orange Spain and MásMóvil also contemplated that Fallacher would assume the position of president of the board of directors of the new company, while the current CEO of MásMóvil Meinrad Spenger holds the position of financial director.

Brussels is looking closely at the result of the merger, since its approval would be read by the telecommunications sector of the Old Continent as the starting shot for a merger process that the companies have been claiming for years as the only alternative to be able to compete with the size and sufficient financial strength in the international market.

It remains to be seen if the movement at the top of the French company finally affects the new company resulting from the merger if the placet in Brussels is obtained. In any case, Pech is a manager who knows the Spanish telecommunications market well.

For six years he was financial director of Wanadoo in Spain, the germ of what Orange is today. In addition, he has gone through numerous responsibilities in the group in France, Romania and Belgium until reaching the position of CEO and financial director of the Africa and Middle East area of the Orange Group, with a presence in 18 countries.

Pech will take over the command in Spain at a turbulent time for the Spanish Telecommunications sector, as the latest corporate movements in some of the large companies in the sector are reflecting. During the month of January, Colman Deegan, at Vodafone Spain, and Tobías Martínez, at Cellnex, left their posts as CEOs. In both companies they are still looking for a replacement.
